Schools could be allowed share PPS numbers of prospective students under legislation to be introduced in the Dáil today.

Minister Richard Bruton has added the measure to his schools admissions bill.

According to the Irish Examiner it’s in a bid to speed up the application process – for secondary schools in particular – where pupils apply for a place at more than one institution.

The legislation also calls for an end to waiting lists – five years after the new laws come into force.
