Nenagh sees largest hike in Live Reg numbers

The number of people signing on in Tipperary increased by nearly 300 last month.

However the long term trend remains positive with almost 2,000 fewer on the Live Register in the last year.

Latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show there were 11,190 people signing on in the Premier County in June.

Just over 6,000 of these were in South Tipp with in excess of 5,150 in the north of the county.

The overall total for Tipperary is up 284 from May to June.

All eight social welfare offices in Tipperary recorded increases last month – the biggest jump was in Nenagh where an additional 62 people joined the dole queue followed by Carrick on Suir with 50.

However year on year there’s been a marked reduction in the numbers in the county – down 1,954 in the last 12 months.
