Cycle Against Suicide in Tipp today

Tipperary will be awash with orange today as Cycle Against Suicide hits the county.

Over the course of the 14 days of the event around 2,000 people take part in some part of the cycle with at least 200 on any given day.

The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of our mental health and spread the message that “It’s OK not to feel OK; and it’s absolutely OK to ask for help.”

This year the Ursuline Secondary in Thurles and Rockwell College in Cashel are the anchor schools on the Tipperary leg of the journey.

The cyclists will be staying in the Thurles area tonight with a number of events planned for both this evening and tomorrow morning.

Daniel Kirby is one of the link teachers at the Ursuline where the cyclists are due to arrive from Holycross sometime between 6 and 7 this evening.

There will be around 400 cyclists staying in the area, and he says it’ll be a busy 24 hours, with Paralympian Peter Ryan, Tipp Hurler Noel McGrath, and Dr Noel Muldoon Children’s Ombudsman will be speaking.
