There are calls for a greater garda presence in Roscrea in the wake of Sunday’s vicious assault on an elderly couple in the North Tipp town.
94 year old Jimmy Campion was hospitalised with head injuries following the attack by two raiders who beat him with his own walking stick as they robbed his home on the Old Dublin Road.
His 87 year old wife was uninjured but left deeply traumatised by the aggravated burglary – while the community of Roscrea has been left shocked and appalled by the violent attack on the elderly couple who are well known in the North Tipperary Town.
Gardai are holding a case conference this afternoon and further information should be known after that.
