Roscrea gardai say they are following several lines of inquiry into Sunday’s vicious break in at the home of an elderly couple.

94-year-old Jimmy Campion needed several stitches to gashes in his scalp after being beaten over the head during the robbery late on Sunday night on the old Dublin Road.

He’s reported to be recovering well but his wife Maura who had to call the emergency services is said to be deeply traumatised.

An incident room has been set up in Roscrea Garda Station and officers say the investigation is going well.

Inspector Seamus Maher is leading the investigation – he’s told Tipp FM they are using CCTV footage and evidence from locals.
