Man due in court in connection with New Inn burglary

A man is due to appear in court today in connection with a burglary in the New Inn area earlier this week.

A house was broken into at Masterstown at around 11 o’clock last Monday morning.

3 firearms were stolen along with a high-powered Audi car.

Later that evening a Detective Garda escaped serious injury after a shot was fired over his head during a pursuit of a burglary gang across Co Kildare.

They were believed to have been involved in a number of burglaries in the Tipperary area.

A man in his 20s is due before Portlaoise court today in connection with the incident in New Inn – he is charged with a number of road traffic related incidents as well as the unlawful taking of the car in New Inn and the break-in to the house.

The car and firearms have not been recovered.
