Three men arrested in connection with an aggravated burglary in Roscrea have been released without charge.

94-year-old Jimmy Campion and his wife Maura were assaulted by two men who broke into their home after 11pm on Sunday the 7th of May.

Jimmy Campion needed several stitches in his scalp after being beaten over the head and had to spend several nights in hospital.

His wife was uninjured but left traumatised by the ordeal.

The raiders escaped with a considerable sum of money.

Three men were arrested in the Dublin area on Monday and Tuesday.

The men – aged 17, 28 and 34 – were taken for questioning in North Tipperary Garda Stations.

All three were released without charge late yesterday afternoon but Gardai say a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
