A number of Fine Gael T.D's including one Tipperary Deputy, have expressed their opposition to plans to hit student grants for farm families.
Education Minister Ruairi Quinn is currently reviewing the grants system – farmers are concerned that a new type of means test could include their land while small business owners fear their premises could be included.
Among the Fine Gael Deputies opposing the inclusion of farmland in the means test is South Tipperary T.D Tom Hayes.
He is quoted as saying it would be very foolish for the Government to go ahead with something like this.
