Committee formed at packed Bansha GP meeting

The doctor currently attached to the village of Bansha is due to retire in the New Year, however, despite the advertisement of the vacancy by the HSE, no applications to take over the practice were received.

This is being blamed on the lack of the Rural Practice Allowance which covers the cost of running a clinic outside urban areas.

A four person committee was chosen, including meeting organiser Andrew O'Halloran…this committee will represent the village and meet with the Health Minister Leo Varadkar to put their case forward for the Rural Practice Allowance to be reinstated for Bansha.

Killenaule GP Dr. Liam Meagher told the meeting the loss of rural doctors was down to neglect from the HSE and the Department of Health.
