Clonmel has shown a marked improvement in the latest standing of the IBAL Litter League.

The South Tipp town was the only Tipperary inclusion in the survey of 40 towns and cities across Ireland

Clonmel moved up to 6th position among the ranking of 40 towns and cities across the Country.

Oakville Shopping centre, O’Connell Street and the Recycling facility were singled out as being particularly well presented.
Although the bus station came in for some criticism as it was deemed to be moderately littered.

80 percent of the country has been judged ‘clean’ in the latest survey – with 16 towns deemed “cleaner than European Norms”.

Tullamore topped the rankings, followed by the area surrounding Dublin Airport – which was deemed a ‘litter blackspot’ 5 years ago.

85% of 32 tourist sites surveyed nationally were clean, among them the Rock of Cashel, with the remainder exhibiting small amounts of litter.

IBAL welcomed the results but warned that illegal dumping is on the increase with marine litter now at worrying levels and causing great concern.
