Nenagh Councillor Seamie Morris has announced that he has resigned from the Sinn Fein party.

Councillor Morris says he is tendering his resignation as a member of the party effective immediately.

This latest announcement following months of wrangling between the Tipperary Councillor and his former party after Sinn Fein sought to remove him from his position in the party.

Cllr Morris claimed he was subjected to a whispering campaign after he clashed with Sinn Fein officials over a local dispute.

In a statement issued last night, Councillor Morris said he was resigning because adequate attention and party process has not been applied to his formal complaint to the Party in regard to a number of serious unfounded and untruthful allegations made by elements in the party.
He said these unaddressed allegations have had a desperate impact on his family and himself over the last number of months.

He continued that due process has not been followed to resolve the situation.

Councillor Morris had appealed for the party to conduct a review in to how some members of the party, including himself, were treated by what he described as rogue elements within Sinn Fein.
He has previously spoken on Tipp FM about how emdemic the issue of bullying is within the party.

He says he will continue to work on behalf of his constituents and wished his former Sinn Fein colleagues well.
