Child hit by train in Tipperary

Three separate investigations have been launched after a child was hit by a train in Tipperary yesterday evening.

At around a quarter past seven the young girl made her way onto the track near Tipperary town and was struck by the train, travelling from Limerick Junction to Waterford.

The girl, who's believed to be eight or nine years old, was taken under Garda escort to South Tipperary General Hospital – but the extent of her injuries are still unknown.

The Gardai, Irish Rail and the Railway Accident Investigation Unit have launched separate investigations into the incident.
