100 trainees will enter the campus on September 8th to begin their two year course which is split into three phases.
The new programme focuses on Problem-Based Learning, a first for the college, where students will learn through practical experience instead of the training being instructor-led
Superintendent Pat McCabe from the Garda College says it will ease the changeover from college to life on the beat.
The move is also seen as a welcome boost for businesses in the town of Templemore.
