A Tipperary woman has been appointed chief operations officer of Bank of Ireland.

Jackie Noakes will oversee spending in areas such as technology, infrastructure and operations.

The move will appear favourable to many given that 94 percent of senior roles have gone to men in recent times.

Ms Noakes previously held several high profile jobs within the financial sector – most recently she was the CEO of mature savings at Legal and General.

Her CV also boasts a background of global experience, having worked with IBM in Australia, Blue Cross & Blue Shield in the US, Sun Alliance and Fireman’s Fund Insurance in the UK as well as Bank of Ireland in Dublin early in her career.
