Australian Company fined for injuries to Tipp student

An Australian Company involved in an horrific accident that injured a young Tipperary woman could be
facing hundreds of thousand of euro in fines.

The company faces a number of charges in relation to the incident which left the young Nenagh woman horrifically injured in 2015.

Annie Dunne from Kilkeary near Nenagh was back packing through Australia when she took up work at Packing company Kalafatis packing in Shepparton East..

She suffered extensive injuries when her hair became caught in a mechanical conveyor belt in a packing shed in November of 2015 while she was cleaning the machine and a colleague mistakenly turned it on.
It resulted in the young Tipp woman being horrifically injured, with extensive damage to her scalp and one of her ears.

The company involved appeared in court in Victoria yesterday to face charges in relation to the incident.
They had initially faced a total of 10 charges but that has now been reduced to 2.
The company say they intend to plead guilty to both.

In court yesterday the company said the incident had shocked everyone and conceded that language barriers among staff could have contributed to the accident.

A further plea and sentencing will take place in January where its expected the fines could run in to the hundreds of thousands
