An Bord Pleanala uphold North Tipperary planning refusal.

An Bord Pleanala has upheld a decision to refuse permission for a phone mast near Thurles.

North Tipperary Co. Council had refused planning approval last January to Vodafone Ireland for a telecommunications mast at Clongour.

This decision was then appealed by the company to the Planning Appeals Board.

The main reason given was that the Authority wasn't satisfied that the development couldn't be co-located with other  existing telecommunications structures in the area.

The council's stated policy is to strike a balance between facilitating the provision of such structures and sustaining residential amenities and environmental quality.
