Mushroom compost production plant to have positive impact on Lisheen locals

The granting of planning permission for a mushroom compost production plant is being seen as another part of the jigsaw on the former Lisheen mine site.

Commercial Mushroom Producers hope to employ up to 60 people at the facility near Moyne.

It will take up 22 acres of the former mine site.

Local County Councillor John Hogan says CMP are a well established company and a good fit for the area.

He’s hopeful they will have a positive impact on the community.

The company held meetings with locals prior to seeking planning last year.

John Hogan says the community learned from working with Lisheen that a united voice was important so set up a Parish Forum.
