2 female FF selected for Carrick electoral area

For the first time ever Fianna Fail have chosen two female candidates to contest this years local elections in the Carrick on Suir electoral area.

Sitting Councillor Sylvia Cooney Sheehan went through the selection convention uncontested while Imelda Goldsboro from Ballingarry saw off the challenge of Thomas Naughton from Grangemockler by 62 votes to 21.

With much attention focusing on the lack of female candidates, Councillor Cooney Sheehan says changes to the way Fianna Fail run their selection conventions has made it easier for women to get their name on the ballot paper.
