Bringing Tipperary’s roads up to an acceptable standard would cost nearly €200 million.

Tipperary County Council has carried out a survey of the Premier County’s roads based on a rating system that the Department of Transport has developed.

Marcus O’Connor is Director of Services for roads with the local authority.

He says their analysis shows just how much of a shortfall there is.

Meanwhile there are calls for Tipperary motorists to be exempt from the NCT because of the state of the county’s roads.

Independent Councillor Seamie Morris says people can’t be expected to have to constantly repair their cars due to damage caused by poor road surfaces.
