2 men appear in court in Cashel on weapons charges

Two men have appeared in court in Cashel today in connection with the discovery of a number of weapons at a house in Cahir last week.

The men, aged 50 and 33, are charged with conspiracy to import bombs, guns and ammunition into the country.

50 year old Thomas Bates and 33 year old Nigel Gartland were before Cashel District court this morning.

Neither spoke during the brief hearing as Judge Terence Finn asked about the progress of the file in this case, which he was told is in its infancy.

Both men face charges for conspiracy to import guns, bombs and ammunition in to the country.

The man were arrested following a search of their home by officers from the Special Detective unit on the afternoon of November 10th.

They will appear before Cashel District court again on December 14th next.
