There’s strong criticism of the decision to close the Post Office in Terryglass.

It comes as An Post is carrying out a strategic review of its services across the country.

The closure of the post office in Terryglass is being described as a slap in the face to the local community.

It’s being seen as a major threat to the local community with Fianna Fail TD Jackie Cahill saying it puts pressure on older people or those without a car to access postal services.

While An Post say the Terryglass closure is on a temporary basis Deputy Cahill has questioned the likelihood of it reopening after their planned strategic review is complete

He says Tipperary is being hit by Government policy.

Rural post offices have been under threat for some time as An Post tried to make much needed cost savings.

Deputy Cahill says the decision will send a shiver down the spine of other communities at risk of having their post office closed.
