The closure of a number of a number of Tipperary post offices is being met with opposition.

Five post offices across the Premier – in Clogheen, Littleton, Ballingarry, Templetouhy and Gortnahoe – are due to shut, some under consultation with the owners or operators and some under a voluntary retirement scheme with the postmasters and postmistresses.

The proposed closures have been met with anger, with some locals organising meetings to try and save their local post service, with one such gathering taking place at 7:30 this evening in St. Paul’s Community Centre in Clogheen.

Speaking on Tipp Today, PJ English emphasised the importance of organising local residents to fight the closures.
