Tipp farmers urged to increase security

At least half a dozen farms were broken into in the Thurles-Littleton area recently with thousands of euro worth of equipment including batteries and tools stolen.

Gardaí in Thurles are investigating the latest crimes…and say that measures such as a dog, electronic gates and security cameras can reduce the risk of being robbed.

Robert O'Shea from Littleton was broken into two nights in a row last weekend where up to 15 thousand euro worth of goods were stolen.

He is one of at least half a dozen farmers who have been robbed in the last two weeks.

Robert says that after the break in on Saturday night, he took extra precautions on Sunday to prevent another robbery…but it didn't work.

The thieves had left hooks and forks near the door of the shed from where they stole the equipment, which it's thought was for protection in case they were disturbed.

Michael Fahy has also had his property broken into…he says this can't continue and someone will end up getting hurt.

Sergeant Eddie Brennan, of Thurles Garda Station says that measures such as a dog, electronic gates and security cameras can reduce the risk of being robbed.

Anyone with any information on these crimes is being asked to contact their local Garda station.
