Nenagh Garda appeal for witnesses over violent assault

Jack Looney was set up by a number of teenagers during which he suffered multiple kicks to the head and body.

Family members have branded it attempted murder and fear if the culprit isn't caught then they could strike again.

Speaking on Tipp Today in the aftermath of a savage assault on his brother – Donal Looney expressed shock and concern over the behaviour of the school going culprits allegedly involved in this incident.

Jack Looney – who his family describe as vulnerable was walking his small dog towards his mother's home in Nenagh on Friday October 10th when he was set upon by a group of youths in uniform at Andy Bourke's corner near Saint Joseph's Park.

The 52 year old was knocked to the ground and repeatedly kicked as he lay in the foetal position protecting the small dog under him.

He suffered extensive cuts and bruises and lost all of his teeth during the attack and was treated at University Hospital Limerick.

The incident happened in broad daylight in full view of a number of witnesses including school children and Donal feels somebody knows the culprits involved

Nenagh gardaí have launched an investigation into this violent assault but if people want to give information anonymously they can contact the garda confidential line 1800 666 111.

Local Councillor Seamie Morris who personally knows Jack Looney says it’s an appalling attack on a vulnerable harmless person and is urging those who may be protecting the culprits to do the right thing and come forward

While Jack's brother Donal fears he's brother may never recover from what was a total unprovoked, terrifying and potential life threatening assault.
