Investigation into major Ballyclerihan blaze

Explosions from the fire at Jim Ryan's premises in Ballyclerihan could be heard 10 kilometres away.

It’s not being treated as a suspicious blaze

The alarm was raised shortly after 11 pm on Saturday night when patrolling Gardai spotted flames coming from Jim Ryan's Contracting Services.

Six units of the fire brigade from Clonmel Cashel and Cahir attended the scene and fought the major blaze four up to 7 hours before it was brought under control.

It’s reported the explosion could be heard 10 km away while a welding machine blew 200 metres across the main road- while a garda spokesperson described it as a war zone.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated but it’s not being treated as suspicious.

It’s estimated that over a million euro worth of damage has been caused.

A spokesperson for the Ryan family expressed their relief that no body was injured and that most harvesting contracting work had been complete.
