Further tributes are being paid to Irish climbers who lost their lives on Mont Blanc.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to their families and French police are investigating.

The Chief Executive of Tipperary County Council Joe MacGrath told Tipp FM he is shocked at Peter Britton's death.

The 55 year old father of three was a senior engineer with the local authority.

“The news came utterly unexpected as you can imagine and appreciate – and at this time our thoughts and our prayers are very much with his wife Carol and his family” he said.

“We've lost a very valued colleague – a colleague who would have been known to many, many people in Tipperary for many years”.

“But his family have lost a husband and a father” he added.
